Tourism
Monterrey is located in a region with attractive natural contrasts and offers a wide variety of places to spend an enjoyable time.
The downtown area is most definitely worth a visit as it harbors an important part of the history of the city in its Gran Plaza, monuments and buildings.
Center
Gran Plaza: Close to 100 acres (40 hectares) of monuments and historic buildings, the most famous of which are Monterrey Cathedral, the City Theater, the Heroes Explanade, the State Government Palace, the Government Palace Museum, the Fountain of Life and the Tower of Commerce.
The old Quarter: Brick and adobe houses, many of them dating back to the 16th century, have been restored, conserving their ancient architecture, and now serve as galleries, restaurants, bars and clubs in the cultural and social heart of Monterrey.
Santa Lucí a Walk: Built above the ancient springs known as “Ojos de Santa Lucía”, where the city was founded, this walkway has a museum and a plaza commemorating the 400th anniversary of the city of Monterrey. This area will soon be transformed into a large scale tourist attraction, thanks to an urban development project currently under way to link the Macroplaza (Gran Plaza) with Fundidora Park.
